Ek baar navgrahon mein vivad chhid gaya — sabse bada kaun? Har grah apni mahima batata raha. Nirnay ke liye sab devraj ke paas pahunche, par koi bhi Shani Dev ke naam par sahmat na hua — sabko unke danda ka bhay tha. Ye baat Shani Dev tak pahunchi to unhone kaha — theek hai, mahima shabdon se nahi, samay aane par dikhegi.
Raja ki pariksha
Usi kaal mein ek pratapi raja tha jo apne nyay ke liye prasiddh tha. Shani Dev ne uski pariksha leni chahi. Dasha badli, aur dekhte hi dekhte raja par sankaton ka pahad toot pada — rajya mein shatru, bhandar mein kami, aur apnon ka saath chhootna. Raja vichlit hua, par usne teen cheezein nahi chhodi — satya, dharm aur parishram. Kathin se kathin din mein bhi usne na jhooth ka sahara liya, na kisi nirdosh ka ahit kiya.
Saadhe saat varsh baad
Jab pariksha ki avadhi puri hui, Shani Dev swayam prakat hue aur bole — rajan, maine tumhara sab kuch chheen kar dekha, par tumhara dharm nahi chheen paya. Yehi tumhari asli sampatti thi. Ab jo main lauta raha hoon, wo pehle se kai guna hokar tumhare paas rahega. Raja ka rajya lauta, yash lauta — aur uski katha ghar-ghar Shanivar vrat ke saath kahi jaane lagi.
Katha ka saar
Shani Dev ki katha ka sandesh darr nahi, dharya hai. Kathin samay har jeevan mein aata hai — Shani ki dasha use bas ek naam deti hai. Us samay jo satya aur karm nahi chhodta, wahi pariksha mein uttirn hota hai. Isi liye Shanivar ko til-tel ka deepak, hanuman chalisa aur zarooratmand ki seva — ye teeno Shani-aaradhna ke ang mane gaye hain. Seva se badhkar Shani Dev ko kuch bhi priya nahi.
Once, a dispute broke out among the nine celestial grahas — who among them was the greatest? Each praised his own glory. The matter reached the court of the gods, yet no one dared name Shani Dev — all feared his rod of justice. When word reached Shani Dev, he simply said — very well; greatness is proven by time, not by words.
The king's trial
In that age there ruled a mighty king famed for his justice. Shani Dev chose to test him. The planetary period shifted, and misfortunes crashed upon the king like a mountain — enemies at the borders, an emptying treasury, allies drifting away. The king was shaken, but three things he never abandoned: truth, dharma and honest effort. Even on his darkest days he neither leaned on lies nor harmed the innocent.
After seven and a half years
When the period of trial ended, Shani Dev himself appeared and said — O king, I took everything from you, yet I could not take your dharma. That was your true wealth. Whatever I now return shall stay with you multiplied. The kingdom returned, the glory returned — and the king's tale came to be told in every home alongside the Saturday vrat.
The essence
The message of Shani Dev's story is not fear — it is endurance. Hard times visit every life; Shani's period merely gives them a name. The one who refuses to abandon truth and effort during that time passes the test. This is why Saturday worship traditionally includes a sesame-oil lamp, the Hanuman Chalisa, and above all, service to those in need — nothing pleases Shani Dev more than seva.
